The cat came back the very next day...

Our cat has just begun going outside since winter is over. It's his first time ever since we just got him as a kitten in Nov. Well 2 nights ago we didn't realize he was outside and left him out overnight. Yesterday, all day, Kelsey and I were calling him but to no avail. I was getting a bit worried, but as I was making supper I heard him meowing at the back door. I was so happy, and so was Kelsey! Poor little thing was all dirty. He is a male, so I'm thinking I should get him fixed now. He'll be a bit of a roamer.

I've been wanting to start up a bit of a journal on my blog to keep track of my progress in training for the race. Unfortunately my training has stopped since I hurt my foot. I think I wrote a bit about it last time. On Good Friday I happily ran 6.3km and then the next day the bottom of my foot hurt really bad. Feels like I pulled something. It was slightly better the following Tuesday so Cam and I went for a good run. It hurt as soon as we started but I just wanted to keep going. Sure enough, the pain became really dull, and I ran 7.4km which I was so proud of. But, as soon as I came to a stop, I realized that my foot was in more pain than ever before! So that's where I'm at. I won't go until it's all better...it's been 8 days, and it has improved, but it's not 100%. I'm really anxious to get out there though because I don't want to backtrack. I've also gained 10 lbs since I quit breastfeeding Leah in the fall, and I'm so disappointed with myself. I just want to get in shape.

Last Friday my friend Jodi took Kelsey and Leah overnight. That was a nice break. Cam and I enjoyed a nice dinner out at Egans, then we watched "Blades of Glory". Funny. I managed to get all my shopping done in preparation for Kelsey's birthday next Saturday. Cam has made her a nice gift...I'll post pics when it's all done!

I have to confess that there is one thing that I just cannot cook. Roast. It's supposed to be easy I know but I just can't get it right. Not to save my life. Either it's overdone and tough, or the next time I go overboard trying to make it tender and it is still bleeding in the middle. This was the case yesterday. So I cranked the heat so I could finish it in time (Cam and I both had plans) and it actually turned out okay. But if anyone has any failsafe ways to cook it let me know and I'll give it a try.

I'm an auntie again to a baby girl which is so exciting! Be sure to check J&K's blog for pictures.

Bonnie: I like to do roast beef in the slow cooker, starting out on high for a few hours, then finishing on low until tender when you stick a knife in it--but I'm not sure total time. I usually pour a can of beef broth & sprinkle with onion soup mix before starting (which makes a good gravy) when done.

I find when I do a roast (most times in the crock pot) that it depends on the cut of the meat. Just like a steak, the better the cut the more tender and juicy it is.

Hi Bonnie. I posted this comment on my blog after your comment, but then I wasn't sure whether you'd check back again, so I thought I'd leave it here as well. I'm glad you stopped by and said hello. Ok, the name alone makes me NOT want to join ... DEATH race? Couldn't they have come up with a nicer name? haha But yes, I remember when 10 km sounded unfathomable, but after 13 weeks of training I went from running 1 minute at a time to 64 minutes all at once, so it works. Be encouraged! Sorry to hear about the problem with your foot. I had shin splints really bad and they hurt even when I was sitting down. I probably should've rested them, but like you said, I was scared to backtrack. I'm resting them now though. I haven't run since Sunday, but I've gone on a few walks instead. Better to be safe than sorry. Here's to quick healing. You can totally do it and I can't wait to hear all about it.
