Ha. I think it will be neat to see how the other bloggers (Terry, Kristy) write about this hiking trip. Did we all view it differently?
I had a pretty good time overall. The hike up was very difficult. I've never hiked carrying a heavy pack before--very challenging. It was just steady uphill for what seemed like an eternity! Luckily we did take a lot of breaks. Eventually we started seeing a few patches of snow, but thought, "No big deal...those patches are just in the shade and haven't melted yet".
Then we got to a little stagnant lake. You have to go downhill a bit to get there, and then back uphill again to keep on track. (That's just how the trail goes). Well...Cam figures that there MUST be a shorter way if we just go straight through the bush. Half the group followed the trail, and I was with the other half. It wasn't so bad at first. But just as I was getting really sick of bushwhacking, we realize we're thigh deep in snow too. The other girl had tripped and fell in some deep snow. Cam slipped on a log and scraped himself abit. We were all beginning to lose patience, but we had already been hiking about 30-40 min, so the guys didn't want to turn back. No way. We kept hollering to Jeff, Terry, Kristy and Jackie to see if we were close to them. They would always answer back, but they'd keep hiking. We just couldn't find the trail. Finally we yelled "STOP! We're trying to find you guys." haha I can laugh now.
Anyway, we got to our camping spot, and there was a lot of snow, and the lake was frozen. Not what we expected but we made the best of it.
Since it was quite chilly up there, I felt really bad for my brother Terry because he had no tent, so Cam & I took him in our squishy 2 man tent. We were very warm so I'm thankful for that. But we were just on hard ground. Tree roots and all--I didn't sleep too well at all, plus I kept "hearing things" and I'd wake up Cam and he'd get all scared and mad at me. Terry slept through it all.
I got up at 7am and made a fire. It was looking really dark grey all around us. Within 25 minutes it was hailing, then snowing, then raining. Absolutely miserable. We couldn't even see the mountain we were supposed to climb. It was unanimous that we should just head home. It only took us 2 hours to get down ( 4 to go up). It was an adventure. I slept so good after a long hot bath.
Tonight is a BBQ at our house for our Bible study group. I should start cleaning again.
